The production of MoFe70 primarily relies on raw materials such as molybdenum concentrate, silicon iron powder, aluminum particles, iron scale, steel scrap, fluorite, and sodium nitrate.

Raw Material Composition

Molybdenum Concentrate

It is the main source of molybdenum in MoFe, requiring a high grade (Mo content of 48%-52%) and low impurity content (S≤0.065%, P≤0.023%, Cu≤0.30%, etc.). The particle size must not exceed 20mm, with the 10-20mm size not exceeding 20% of the total amount.

Silicon Iron Powder

Contains 75% silicon iron and needs to be crushed and ball-milled, mainly used for reducing molybdenum concentrate and iron scale oxides. The silicon content is required to be 75%-77%, and the particle size distribution should be controlled so that particles sized 1.0-1.8mm do not exceed 1%, those sized 0.5-1.0mm do not exceed 10%, with the remainder being below 0.5mm.

Aluminum Particles

Used as a reducing agent, the aluminum content must be accurate, with a particle size requirement of less than 3mm. Typically, 5-8kg is added per batch, adjusted based on the temperature and molybdenum content of the molybdenum concentrate.

Iron Scale

Mainly derived from the oxidation of iron during steel rolling and forging, requiring Fe≥68%, S≤0.05%, P≤0.035%, etc. It must be heated and dried before use to remove moisture and oil.

Steel Scrap

Contains more than 98% iron, generally using carbon steel scrap as the main source of iron in the alloy.

Fluorite

The particle size should be less than 20mm, with CaF≥90%, and it must be heated and dried before use. Typically, 2-3kg is added per batch.

Sodium Nitrate

When the molybdenum content of the molybdenum concentrate is low, sodium nitrate can be used as a heat supplement, with 1-3kg added per batch.

Charge Calculation

Using 100kg of molybdenum concentrate as the basis for calculation, assuming a Mo content of 52%, the molybdenum content in the produced MoFe alloy is 60%. The specific calculation conditions are as follows:

Silicon iron powder contains Si76%, Al2%, Fe21%.

The iron oxide content in iron scale is 95%.

The steel scrap contains 98% iron.

Each batch of charge includes 20kg of iron scale, 3kg of sodium nitrate, 2kg of fluorite, and 6kg of aluminum particles (with Al99%).

The molybdenum in the molybdenum concentrate exists as MoO3 and is 100% reduced.

Production Process

During the smelting process, approximately 30% of the iron from the iron scale enters the alloy, while 70% enters the slag in the form of FeO, ensuring that the heat of the charge is not less than 2300kJ/kg. The sodium nitrate contains 99% NaNO3, used to enhance the reducing reaction.
